Recommended Strains

Green Crack

image2

Named by Snoop Dogg, Green Crack is a well-known strain that is mostly indica and grows indoors and outdoors. The THC content of this strain is quite high over 21% and is mainly felt through a full body high.

An offspring of superstars Afghani and Skunk, this is a high-yield strain that produces up to 300g indoors and 600g outdoors. This plant can get absolutely massive, so make sure you have a lot of grow room. Green Crack lets you harvest huge quantities of sparkling, trichome-coated buds.

If you are looking for a heavy body buzz that kicks in hard, this strain is ideal. A few hits of Green Crack and you’ll be tied to your couch, savoring the citrus-like scent of these dank buds. Each muscle relaxed and soothed, you can rest away the whole week’s stress in the hours you will be spending under the influence of Green Crack.

Durban Poison

image3

Descended from Original Durban, which is named after its origins in Durban, South Africa, Durban Poison comes with the same highly psychedelic effects that its parent is known for. That is not surprising at all, given the high THC content of this cannabis strain, which can go up to more than 20%.

It can be grown outdoors and indoors, and its buds are always fat and heavy and coated in thick layers of sparkling trichomes. You do not even have to smoke Durban Poison to get excited. The sight of its large glands generously overflowing with resin is enough to make you drool. If grown outdoors, Durban Poison can yield up to 350g. Indoors, that number shoots up to 550g.

Bubba Kush

image4

As a member of the Kush family, Bubba Kush is one of the more widely known strains you can get your hands on today. This easy to moderate grow thrives both indoors and outdoors and typically completes flowering in just 9 weeks. This indica grows bushy plants that produce huge, dense, and sticky buds.

The THC content of our Bubba Kush is 17.79%, with a CBD content of 1.20%. This offspring of the classic Bubble Gum and Original Kush can produce yields weighing up to 500g indoors and 300g outdoors. These extremely large numbers make it a ‘must have’ in your garden.

The effect of this strain is best described as a relaxing full-body high.

Lambs Breath

image5

The origins of this strain can be traced back to Jamaica, where it grew in the wild. More recently, this strain has become increasingly in-demand, though it is difficult to find in North America. For this reason, if you want to experience the benefits of this strain, growing your own plants is the easiest way to do so.

As a strong sativa, you can expect that this strain will give you that exciting cerebral high, which is evident early on as the high starts to kick in. It also features a high content of THC, ranging from 19 to 25% on average. The high kicks in fast, influencing the mind almost instantly, while simultaneously energizing the entire body.

Sour Diesel

image6

If you are looking to grow a sativa hybrid indoors or outdoors, then Sour Diesel strain is ideal for you. Classified as moderate in terms of growing difficulty, Sour Diesel begins to flower in 8 to 9 weeks but may take 10 weeks for the flower to fully mature. Expect fast growth, especially in the first couple of weeks into flowering.

Sour Diesel has been around for a long time and has earned the respect of both veteran and novice growers and users. This strain has made a name for itself through its uplifting effect. The THC and CBD contents are fairly high, measured at 18.50% and 0.80% respectively.

The stink of its buds alone explains how this strain got its name and why a lot of weed lovers adore it.

Purple Kush

image7

Having a unique purple color and buds with orange and white hairs, Purple Kush has become one of the most iconic strains of our time. One look is all it takes to distinguish this plant from the others. Its scent is distinctly pungent, so there is no mistaking it once a little Purple Kush bud is brought into a room.

Capable of thriving both indoors and outdoors, this strain is classified as an easy to moderate grow. Flowering takes an average length of time, and the yields are fantastic. Indoors, this plant can produce up to 400g of dense buds. Outdoors, that number becomes 250g.

The THC content of Purple Kush is amazingly high at over 24%.

White Widow

image8

White Widow won the Cannabis cup in 1995, thanks to the wonderful effects it produces when smoked. It creates a powerful burst of happiness and energy, while boosting your creativity and making you want to have deep, intellectual conversations. Thanks to its nearly equal ratio of indica to sativa (60-40), this strain is very motivating while still relaxing for your body.

White Widow has bright green leaves and white hairs and can grow over 8 feet tall outdoors but should stay under 4 feet with hydroponics, soil or with LED lighting inside. The time it takes for growing White Widow will vary depending on whether you grow it outdoors and indoors. You will have to change the light cycle when you want them to enter the flowering stage.

Super Silver Haze

image9

This award-winning strain is an indoor-only grow that is sativa-dominant. The composition of this strain (14.70% THC, 0.1% CBD, and 1.4% CBN) produces a unique set of effects. It clears your mind and lets you enjoy a good body buzz mixed with a lot of mental stimulation. Your creativity and intellect will get a big boost and is great for deep discussions. For these reasons this strain is highly recommended for people who work in creative fields, such as artists, musicians, and writers, or those who move in creative circles.

Train Wreck

Classified as an easy grow, this plant can be grown indoors or out and flowers in just 8 sweet weeks. Don’t be surprised when you’re greeted by absolutely huge dense buds with crystals and colorful hairs all over. The strong scent alone of this plant is nearly enough to knock you out and give you a wild mind trip.

With 60% sativa, 30% indica, 10% ruderalis and a descendent from the great Original Cali Train Wreck, our auto-flowering Train Wreck is a hardcore, stony, and outright mind-blowing high.

Choose Where You Will Grow (Indoors or Outdoors)

Indoor Growing

Growing indoors is much more private than growing outdoors and you also get more control over your grow.

An indoor cannabis grow can be surprisingly cheap to get started and maintain, especially if you plan on growing just a few plants.

Take a look at a few completed indoor grow journals to get an idea of how much you can expect to harvest in different types of indoor setups. My latest 315W LEC grow yielded over a pound (497g) of dried and cured cannabis.

You have more control over everything in an indoor growing environment, which means that indoor growers can consistently produce dank buds. However, this dank weed-growing power comes with more responsibility. As an indoor grower, your plants are 100% reliant on you your care if they are to survive. If you don’t provide everything your plants need, they will die.

What space works best?

You can grow cannabis almost anywhere that has easy access to water and fresh air…

  • a spare room
  • a closet
  • garage
  • grow tent
  • extra bathroom
  • even the inside of a computer case!
(though I recommend a Space Bucket instead 🙂

When thinking about where to grow indoors, you should also consider the temperature (also referred to as ‘temps’) of your grow space and remember your temps will rise once you have your grow lights running!.

A thermometer - Temperature is important when growing cannabis indoorsYoung growing cannabis plants grow fastest when temps a bit warmer, in the 70-85°F (20-30°C) range.

When plants are a bit older, in the budding/flowering stage, it’s best to keep temps slightly cooler, around 65-80°F (18-26°C) to produce buds with the best color, trichome production and smell.

Because temps are so important, it’s best to be able to have some amount of control over the temperature of your grow area. When growing indoors, your grow lights will give off heat. Generally, the more powerful your lights, the more heat they give off.

If you want to install a lot of bright lights in a small space, you will likely have to install an air conditioner in addition to your exhaust system to make sure you keep your temps in the right range.

If you’re growing just a few plants in a grow tent  to get an idea of how much you can expect to harvest in different types of indoor setups. My latest p things cool enough.

Outdoor Growing

Outdoor Growing

Growing outdoors is cheaper to get started since you don’t have to get grow lights or create an indoor grow area, though you will have to worry about privacy/stealth, possible pollination, people stealing your plants, bugs, deer and other unexpected outdoor visitors.

However, if you pick the right strain and live in a good environment, it can be much cheaper to grow outdoors, since you don’t have to provide everything for your plants. The sun will do a lot of the most cost-heavy work for you by providing a free grow light.

Of course, when you’re growing outside, it’s not always possible to control the environment perfectly. If it’s dry, you will need to water your plants. If it’s too rainy, you need to protect your plants from getting overwatered.

When it comes to temperatures, a good rule of thumb about cannabis plants is if it’s too hot for you, it’s probably too hot for your plants. And just like humans, cannabis plants can die if exposed to freezing or too-hot temps.

So if you know it’s going to be extremely hot or cold where you live, you may need to take extra steps to protect your plants from the elements, like setting up a small greenhouse.

Choose Your Grow Light – What kind of light do you need to grow cannabis successfully?

There are lots of different grow lights for cannabis, including:

  • The Sun
  • Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs (CFLs) & Household LEDs
  • Other Fluorescent Lighting (T5 / T8)
  • LEC (CMH) grow lights
  • LED grow lights
  • Metal Halide (MH) & High-Pressure Sodium (HPS)

The Sun

When you’re growing with the sun, you need to make sure that your plants are getting at least 8+ hours of direct sunlight each day for the best results.

It’s best that your plants get direct sunlight from at least 10am-4pm, and more light is better. Because of the high light needs of the cannabis plant (it needs more light than many other types of plants), it is not well suited to growing in a window (though I’ve seen plenty of growers start their seeds in sunny windows before moving their plants to a more suitable final location).
